I was the Lead Designer of the Peak Scoliosis Bracing System, an unloader brace designed to improve posture which can enhance the quality of life for adult scoliosis patients. It is a highly adjustable brace that helps promote a natural center of gravity and enhanced mobility. Improving torso alignment can lead to increased vital capacity and ultimately lead to an increase in a patient's ability to perform activities of daily living.
In 2015 the Peak Scoliosis Bracing System received the Spine Technology Award. Winner in the category: Thoracolumbar Care
As the Lead Designer on the Summit project, I was tasked with creating a line of lower spine braces to limit motion and allow healing and provide effective compression for low back pain relief. The final design consists of three braces. The Summit 456 TLSO, Summit 637 LSO and Summit 631 LSO are all available in S, M, L and XL sizes. Practitioners can choose the appropriate brace based on the level of motion restriction needed.
In 2012 the Aspen Summit Product Line of braces made up more than 25% of Aspen’s annual revenue.
Aspen’s innovative Active Postural-TLSO is designed to address the symptoms associated with poor posture. With the increased use of cell phones and computers, shoulders can become rounded causing postural kyphosis. This device is designed to actively influence posture by providing gentle support while activating and strengthening the necessary muscles that promote proper spinal alignment. The Active Postural-TLSO is lightweight and can be worn throughout the day.
Active Influence for Better Posture
The NEWmatix™ System provides biofeedback to the patient and is a gentle reminder to pull the shoulders back and down, similar to a scapular squeeze exercise performed in physical therapy.
The HUL iPad case was inspired from my inability to find a quality product to meet my needs. Every case I found seemed to fall short in one way or another. I decided to create one. The result is a handmade, leather case, which allows the user to interact with the iPad in four positions, a typing angle, a movie angle, a position for reading and a closed position.
Velo Allegro Cycling Club was founded in 1986 by a small group of local racers and fitness enthusiasts in Long Beach, CA. Today the club has grown to over 100 members.
As the club’s VP, I help run the club as well design the clothing. The clothing colors are inspired by the Long Beach flag.
The Vista Lower Spine braces are a part of Aspen’s Acute Restriction line. These braces offer comfort, fit, performance and motion restriction in a low profile design, providing valued benefits to healthcare providers and patients in pre- and post-operative settings. The Vista Line is trusted by trauma centers, clinical practices and rehab facilities worldwide because of peer reviewed studies, biomechanical analyses, and research driven design. The line consists of five brace configurations to accommodate the appropriate patient needs.
I was tasked with redesigning the Vista LS Line and addressing several customer concerns.
The Elite TLSO provides clinicians with a light weight, low profile option to treat patients with symptoms related to osteoporosis. The moldable, adjustable, rigid posterior strut combined with an inelastic knitted belt helps to address kyphosis which could lead to better balance and more daily activities. The patented independent compression mechanism allows patients to target and adjust the compression for optimum comfort and pain relief.
